Speaking

Nearly 15 years ago, with my stomach in knots and my heart pounding like a foot drum, I stepped up to the microphone to speak to my first “official” audience at a large MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group in town.  I wasn’t the “main speaker.”  That would’ve given me a coronary!  I was simply asked to take 5 or 10 minutes to share my approach to Bible memory with my little girls and highlight some benefits of early Bible memorization.  Short and sweet.

My voice trembled as I read from my handprinted note cards; looking up occassionally between sentences to read the listeners’ faces.  I was out of my comfort zone.  And when finished, I vowed never to do that again.

…but God had other plans.  Today, my heart still pounds before I speak – not out of fear or anxiety, but out of excitement and anticipation.  No matter what the topic, if God’s word is spoken, it speaks.  I get the joy of being a part of that process.  There’s nothing better!
